B.A.R.S. Rockland

This innovative bystander intervention program trains local bar and restaurant staff to recognize and prevent sexual violence before it starts. These interactive sessions prepare staff to identify potentially unsafe situations and intervene safely and discreetly.

SAEDA (Student Activists Ending Dating Abuse) Program

This exciting youth-led education and prevention program is dedicated to celebrating diversity, challenging oppressive social norms, promoting leadership and inspiring youth to ultimately end gender-based violence. SAEDA has three main program components which include our 4-day, bi-annual SAEDA Training, monthly SAEDA events and SAEDA Sub-committee.

SAEDA Trainings

Each February and August, we offer an interactive training for Rockland high school youth on gender-based violence, anti-oppression concepts and social change activism. The SAEDA training is co-led by a diverse team of youth leaders and adult trainers and focuses on a spectrum of social justice topics. This is an exciting opportunity to develop leadership skills and ignite passion for making Rockland (and the world) less violent and more equitable for all.

Monthly Events

Once a month, SAEDA’s youth leaders organize an interactive, educational event that is open to any teen interested in learning more about the topics of healthy dating, youth activism and other social justice issues.

SAEDA Sub-Committee

The Sub-committee is the core leadership team which meets weekly to organize monthly events, outreach and activist actions. Any youth who completed the 4-day SAEDA Training is eligible to join. In the Sub-committee, youth leaders can practice their community organizing skills and even become a trainer for future SAEDA Training.

For more information on SAEDA, to become a member or to apply for the next SAEDA Training, contact us at (845) 634-3391 or saeda@centersc.org. You can also visit our Facebook page.

Outreach to Diverse Communities

We have a team of diverse, multi-lingual, multi-identity staff members who serve as liaisons between the Center and the communities they represent. Our coordinators work to meaningfully engage and build bridges via outreach and community-informed organizing initiatives. They increase accessibility, provide supportive services and deepen the accountability and cultural fluency within our work.

Our team currently works with the Haitian, African American, Latino, Asian and LGBTQ+ communities.

Rape Crisis Counseling Training

This is a comprehensive program that meets the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) standards, equipping participants with crucial skills to support survivors of sexual assault. Certification is contingent on passing a final examination, and a one-year commitment to the Center for Safety & Change is requested.
